Normal people

When you hear about the actions of a guy that has saved 15 people from a fire, a bank robbery that was stopped by a security guard, damn, that's when you say NORMAL PEOPLE ROCKS!!

In a world that's surrounded by crappy advertising, fake politicians, scams by "the powers that be", I get to feel proud of being normal. Just plain normal and common. No fancy banners or brands that influence my behavior. Just me.

Since this post is supposed to be about anything that fits in the "Normal People" category, I'll leave you with a short story.

Her name was Juanita Fernandez. She used to live in the country, 'til she moved to the city. With few experience in this new way of living, she walked to the park.

Among the pidgeons that lurked for food, there were a couple of children. Sam and Leonor. Feeding the birds was part of their free time activities. Juanita walked to those two, and asked, as a stranger gets to asks, how she could find a place to stay. Leonor said that 'you could stay at home with us, lady', but Sam didn't want to bring an adult home. It would be weird, if mother saw them trying to hide her in their room.

Juanita, then, had an idea: if they could open their window, then mother shouldn't notice her, and the kids wouldn't get in trouble. A great idea.

As the brothers walked towards home, their minds were filled with curiosity: who this woman was, what're her purposses, and why us. None of this had any importance when they arrived.

Mother welcomed her children, and joyed over their tales. In fact, she wanted to hear more about the pidgeons feeding. So the kids told her everything about - how they fought for every bread crumb, how many pidgeons tried to eat, and even some tips a sitting old man gave them so the pidgeons didn't get scared. A magical day they had, and mother asked more questions. So many, that the night passed fast, and a new day came.

The kids, having said everything to her mother, decided to go get some sleep. The next day, they would go to the zoo.

And so, ends the story of Sam and Leonor. The boys who had an incredible day, and forgot, with no bad thoughts, about Juanita, the lady who died on the cold street.

And, so, ends my story, and my post.

See you.

Want some green stuff!?

The post this day is about GREEN. Not the Hulk Green, but environment green. A few questions must be answered about the subject.

- Where do people learn about enviromentally friendly practices?

I know there're a few organisations, but sadly I can't remeber the name. I know there's one that teaches you to become more friendly with your surroundings, and gives you some techniques on food harvesting and garbage recicling.

- Have you incorported recycling into your habits? Describe

Not really, mostly due of the lack of knowledge downtown. Also, you can't say that the city has some kind of politics about.

- Do you use a bike or your legs instead of a car?

I'm used to walk home from the university in the evenings. In the morning, I take the bus. My family has no car.

- Have you joined or supported any eco-organisations? Why/Why not?

The only org I may have joined/supported was one about the defense of the whales on chilean seas. Why? Because there was a massive media advertising. And I care for whales.

- What else have you done /would you like to do?

I would like to reduce car traffic, in order to improve the city's air quality. Since the begining of Transantiago, pollution has gone to levels that surpass the absurd.

- What have you done to reduce your carbon footprint?

Nothing that I know.

- What's missing in our society/Santiago regarding this issue?

A real NGO that protects the environment. All government attempts have been useless, not to say that they don't give a damn about.

So, like Freddy Mercury said in "Fat Bottomed Girls, "get on your bikes and ride!"

Among us... they are!!!

Greetings, travelers!!!! On this very day, we embark on an adventure. A journey across time and space in a ship called Imagination. We now enter the world of Sci-Fi (not the channel, I mean genre).

When I was a young kid, years and years ago, there was a book that got my attention with a strong and fiery blow: Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451. The plot, as you can search on the web, goes by this simple yet mindblasting premise: firemen don't work to cease fires, they are there to ignite 'em. In a world where all the books are forbidden by law, a fireman, Guy Montag, lives the life of everyone in this blind society. When a girl, called Clarisse McMillan, reaches this man, the world all around him begins to change, and suddenly things are not what they were supossed to be.

A novel written by Ray Bradbury, is a complete depiction of what could become of us if things are to keep in the same rail. When you think about it, there's a whole depreciation around books. Younger generations are lazy, don't like to read, and enjoy more the fact of being in front of a screen, doing anything. Most people logs on social networks such as facebook, twitter, and others (I'm not aspecialist on the subject, since I don't really care much about what social networks are around), and they have "friends" (or at least what they call friends), having only a text contact. You can lie about everything when you write something. The sky is the limit, since you don't get to see the other's face.

Most science fiction books/novels were made to show a variation of our environment and society development, where there's a big, centralized government that controls all of our movements. Call it Big Brother, The Man, whatever you like. Sci-fi is supossed to be some sort of future reality that we don't want. But, nowadays, a lot of things that were just fantasy in the older days are real. And who knows what awaits.

Damien Hirst

In the world of art there's been a lot of controversial artists, but maybe none as Damien Hirst. As a result of one of his last crazy ideas, he is going to award "a free personalised spot print to the first person who sees every single one of the 11 exhibitions of spot paintings he is about to open at Gagosian galleries around the world."

Some, and himself, consider him to be a Williy Wonka, like the character in Roald Dahl's book, due to his level of extravagance. To be able to visit the Complete Spot Paintings exhibition all around the world would mean such an investment that it would better be put to use in a family's bank account. Most people won't even be able to see it.

If by chance, you happen to be in a country that holds a Gagosian gallery, make sure to visit it, 'cause it may be the only one you get to visit. Unless you can afford to pay the air plane tickets to travel to the other countries that have a Gagosian gallery (so you get an idea, there is one in Geneva).
